History of Scholarship
In 2025, we introduced a new scholarship in honor of Peter McKellar III. Pete was a successful architect, devoted Rotarian and soccer lover. He started the Soccer Classic in 1984 to showcase local soccer talent while raising funds for charitable work.
This scholarship is for a senior soccer player who participates in the Rotary Soccer Classic. It is intended for undergraduate studies at accredited four-year colleges or universities. The scholarship is awarded without regard to race, color, creed, religion, gender or disability.
The scholarship is a one time $1,000 payable to the college the award recipient will attend.
Requirements For Scholarship
An applicant and award recipient must be a graduating senior who participates in the Rotary Soccer Classic tournament. In addition, an applicant must be a full-time resident of the Tri County area, and a citizen of the United States. Applicants must carry a four-year GPA of at least 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale.
The scholarship recipient will be selected on the basis of academic achievement, leadership and participation in school, athletics and community service, and recommendation from a coach or faculty representative of the applicant’s high school.
