Backpack Buddies

It’s hard to imagine that students east of the Cooper leave school on Friday and return Monday having had very little to eat over the weekend.

However, not every family is as affluent as many of the residents in our community. And in tough economic times like these, food is rationed in individual households.

That's Where The Lowcountry Food Bank and Rotary Come In

Bagging Sweet Potatoes For Those In Need

On Saturday, February 7th, 2026, our club volunteered to bag sweet potatoes for multiple needy families in the Lowcountry.

Sending Home Nutritious Food

But the neediest students will now be sent home with nutritious food thanks to the Rotary Club, which is committed to raising funds, packing back packs, and delivering them weekly. Students in East Cooper schools no longer go home for the weekend without healthy foods and snacks.

Thank you to everyone for your service on Saturday!

Help From our Lowcountry Food Bank

The club has partnered with the Lowcountry Food Bank to purchase the items and will donate food to Jennie Moore Elementary School, Laurel Hill Primary School, and St. James-Santee.

The schools have identified 200 students that they believe to be in need.
