Words From Our President
Thank you for visiting our website and learning more about Rotary and our club here in Mount Pleasant.
I truly hope that you will join us for a meeting to find out more about who we are, but I’ll try to share a few words here to encourage your next steps.
Entering our 49th year, our club, established in June of 1977, truly embraces the Rotary motto of “service above self”.
As a club we work with community organizations to address many needs, both through annual programs mentioned below and through engagement with specific one-time opportunities.
Our premier club fundraiser, The Rotary Soccer Classic, is an annual event that marks the beginning of the high school soccer season in the Lowcountry. The success of our soccer classic provides us with the funds to support local charities each year, in addition to providing college scholarships.
Our members give of themselves through programs such as Happy Feet, which provides free shoes for needy school children. Our club also supports the Dictionary Project, which provides dictionaries to all third graders east of the Cooper.
We pick up trash on the highway every quarter. Our club gives funds to continue the fight to eradicate Polio in the world. In addition, we support Water Missions. And we are involved in youth exchange and we work with the Lowcountry Food Bank to address nutritional security and access in our community.
We just finalized a global grant process to purchase and outfit an ambulance to create better outcomes for pregnant women in Malawi – our reach is deep locally, but spreads globally!
Rotary is many things… fellowship, education, service,… it is local, it is global…. It is truth, fairness and goodwill and better friendships . . . it is definitely “beneficial to all concerned”.
